Neck/Extender

I attached the neck last night and started making the fret board  extender this morning. I should be finishing the binding on the back now that the neck is attached but the extender seemed like more fun. I also have to create the binding ledge around the button before I can continue binding. It's a bit of work.

I make the extender by cutting a piece of wood 1/2" thick by approximate width and length of the extender. I fit it to the top and 15th fret decoration. Then I lay the fret board in place and slide with the extender in place and scribe around it with a pencil. I also mark the shape of the ears. I also mark and cut the waste material from underneath using the Siminoff drawings as a guide but I don't copy it exact. It's mine after all. After that I make new lines 1/8" inside the scribed lines and cut to the new line. This gives the extender a small margin under the fret board which looks pretty good, plus I round over the edges on the underside of the extender.

I haven't glued it in yet and I'm not sure what glue I'm going to use since the joint is part wood and part plastic. Maybe I'l use two different glues.
